Description Job Title: Animal Care Assistant - Wildlife Safari Park (16406 292nd St, Ashland, NE 68003) FLSA Status: Non-exempt Classification: Seasonal Hours: Shifts can be 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM or 9:30 AM - 6:30 PM (40 hours/week; approximately late May - August) Pay Rate: $15.40/hour This is a seasonal position with a maximum duration of six months, based on individual performance and business operations. The exact end date will be determined by the official start date. Summary: Join the team at our Wildlife Safari Park, where you will help care for North America’s iconic wildlife - from bison and elk to wolves, bears, and waterfowl - across 440 acres of woodlands and grasslands. The Animal Care Assistant play a hands-on role in animal husbandry and enrichment. This position is located at Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari (16406 N. 292 Street, Ashland, NE 68003) and reports directly to the Supervisor at the Wildlife Safari Park. Duties and Responsibilities: All aspects of animal husbandry including, but not limited to, cleaning, feeding, medicating, assisting with medical procedures, enrichment, display maintenance and general upkeep of building and grounds. Observe and report all animal behaviors and other general observations to Supervisor. Work with interns, volunteers, and student shadows including tours and talks. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Must be at least 18 years of age. Able to work holidays and weekends. Strong communication and organizational skills, including attention to detail. Knowledge of a safe working environment for animal collection, employees, and visitors. Ability to work independently and with a team. Animal husbandry knowledge. Operant conditioning experience. Ability to speak publicly to large and small groups. All candidates are required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, provide proof of a negative TB test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good driving history. Working conditions and physical effort: Must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely. Highly physical environment. Varying temperatures and climates.
