Provide specialized patient care on a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) focused on oncology and trauma cases, delivering skilled nursing interventions in a dynamic, patient-centered environment. This contract role offers the opportunity to apply your RN-Stepdown expertise while supporting a medically diverse adult patient population within a 27-bed mixed PCU/MedSurg unit. Location Overview: This position is located in La Vista, NE, a vibrant area known for its community-oriented atmosphere and accessibility to urban amenities. Key Responsibilities: Deliver comprehensive nursing care to PCU patients including oncology and trauma populations, managing diverse diagnoses and complex care plans. Administer and titrate medications and drips such as chemotherapy agents, heparin, Cardizem, and insulin, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols. Monitor patients using advanced hemodynamic equipment (CVP, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz, ICP), and manage ventilator and other critical care supports. Participate in hourly rounding and foster a therapeutic environment promoting patient comfort and dignity. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including PT/OT, case management, social work, educators, and dietitians. Successfully complete a pass/fail orientation exam requiring a minimum 90% score to ensure preparedness and compliance. Qualifications / Desired Experience: Active RN license with stepdown/PCU nursing experience, including minimum 1 year acute care preferably with oncology exposure. Certification requirements: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS mandatory; Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required. Experience with EPIC EMR system preferred; candidates must have valid drivers license and reside within 50 miles of La Vista. Ability to work 36 hours over a 13-week contract with flexible 12-hour shifts (day and night). Additional Details: Patient care ratio: Day shift 1:4 PCU, 1:5 MedSurg; Night shift 1:5-6 patients. Scrubs color: Navy Blue; support by nursing assistants and charge nurse provided. Strong emphasis on teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and providing compassionate care across diverse patient populations. Orientation includes two days on site to prepare for unit demands. Contract type: 13-week contract with self-scheduling and every other weekend rotation required.
