insulin Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips Description:
This is a stepdown unit for adult patients. The average daily
census is 24 with a ratio of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts.
Common patient diagnoses include cardiac med/surg, dialysis,
cancer, vascular, sepsis, adult respiratory, stroke, post stent,
post pacer placement, and renal failure. Registered Nurses are
required to titrate various drips. Charge nurses are present on
each shift and maintain an assignment. There are patient care
technicians on this unit with a ratio of 1:12. The Registered
Nurses are expected to troubleshoot high flow respiratory
equipment. The Registered Nurses are responsible for reading and
interpreting telemetry strips. Shifts run from 0630 to 1830 and
1830 to 0630. Weekend requirements involve working every other
weekend, and holiday requirements include a minimum of two holidays
within the contract period. Floating to MedSurg or ICU is required
to care for stepdown acuity patients. Dress code includes navy blue
scrubs. Unit-specific orientation lasts one day. Successful
candidates should be team players, flexible, adaptable, and possess
good communication skills. The unit serves various cultural
populations. RTO needs to be submitted upfront and is limited to
seven days or less per contract. Additional RTO requests will not
be approved after submission. Cancellations are allowed up to four
shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is EPIC. A
BSN is not required for this position. The trauma level in this
care setting is 2. This is an acute care division in nursing. 5
