Registered Nurse - Stepdown – UHC Staffing Registered Nurse -
Stepdown Location: Council Bluffs, IA Start Date: 03-02-2026 End
Date: 06-01-2026 Contract Type: Contract Shift Type: Rotating
12-hour shifts (days and nights): 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM and 6:30 PM -
7:00 AM; cyclic scheduling with every-other weekend and holiday
coverage (1 major, 1 minor) Hours per Week: 36 Candidate Pay Rate:

Responsibilities Assess and monitor stepdown patients using
telemetry and advanced cardiac monitoring to keep patients safe
Interpret ECG strips and act on rhythm changes promptly and
confidently Titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, amiodarone,
nitroglycerin) per protocol to manage hemodynamics Provide
high-quality, patient-centered care for diagnoses like heart
failure, Afib, respiratory distress, and stroke Troubleshoot CPAP
and other respiratory equipment as needed and collaborate with RTs
Collaborate with nursing aides, telemetry techs, and the charge
nurse to deliver seamless care Float to ICU when appropriate and
apply critical care skills in higher-acuity settings Participate in
orientation learning activities and demonstrate competency on the
open-book skills exam Qualifications Active RN license (eligible to
work in Iowa) required Minimum 2 years of experience in
telemetry/stepdown or progressive care preferred Required
certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (must be current at time of
submission) Comfortable with drip titration and ECG interpretation;
Epic charting experience preferred Driver's license required at
time of submission (radius rule enforced) Ability to pass the
orientation open-book skills exam with a 90% score (per contract
requirement) Willingness to follow hospital policies (e.g., no
artificial nails in clinical areas) Education Active Registered
Nurse (RN) license required BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm
interpretation Drip titration and advanced cardiac medication
management Familiarity with Epic electronic health record CPAP
troubleshooting and basic respiratory support collaboration Stroke
(NIHSS) assessment skills and acute neurologic monitoring Strong
teamwork, communication, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced
unit Charge nurse collaboration and understanding of assignment
