Job Title: PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Current RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation with a minimum score of 90% to continue employment. Description: The unit accommodates a diverse patient population. Registered Nurses provide care to adult patients with various conditions. Common diagnoses include cardiac, med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, and renal failure. Nurses are required to titrate drips, including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin. Charge Nurses are present on each shift and also maintain an assignment. Patient care techs are available with a ratio of 1:12. Registered Nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips. High flow oxygen equipment is available on the unit, and Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting. Flexibility and the ability to learn are key attributes for success in this unit. Teamwork and good communication skills are essential. The unit places a strong emphasis on patient experience and responsiveness. Cultural competency is valued, as the patient population served is diverse. Requests for time off must be submitted upfront, and additional requests may not be approved. Shifts may involve floating to MedSurg or ICU to care for patients with similar acuity. Compliance with dress code, including specific scrub colors, is required. The environment encourages adaptability and feedback.
