*ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:* Capital Humane Society is a private,
501(c)3 non-profit community-supported organization and is not
affiliated with any government agency or national animal welfare
organization. We are a socially conscious animal shelter accepting
all animals that need assistance regardless of age, health, or
temperament. Capital Humane Society maintains contractual
relationships to serve as the holding and care facility for Lincoln
Animal Control and Lancaster County authorities. Capital Humane
Society has no legal authority to investigate animal abuse or seize
animals.*JOB TITLE:* Veterinarian*REPORTS TO:* Director of
Veterinary Medicine*JOB SUMMARY: *The Veterinarian oversees the
health and welfare of animals in the care of Capital Humane Society
on a day-to-day basis. This includes but is not limited to
spay/neuter surgeries (including pediatric surgeries), other
surgical procedures, and all aspects of shelter medicine and animal
health. This position also provides services to public owned
animals through the CHS Pawsitive Impact Project program, CHS
Stransky Veterinary Center, and CHS low-cost spay/neuter feline
program.*JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES* Perform spay/neuter
surgeries (including pediatric) and provide post-op care, as
necessary. Perform other surgical procedures including, but not
limited to, eye enucleations, amputations, dental cleanings &
extractions, etc. Maintain the general health, care, and welfare of
the shelter animal population. This includes assisting in the
development of protocols and procedures to these ends. Perform
physical evaluations, vaccinations, treatments, heartworm testing,
FeLV/FIV testing, and other tests and procedures as needed.
Medically manage cruelty and neglect cases and testify in court, if
necessary. Maintain relationship with UNL Veterinary College and
assist with existing programs. Maintain relationships with other
veterinary or technician schools. This includes teaching and
mentoring students in pre-veterinary programs, veterinary programs,
and veterinary technician programs. Maintain professional license
to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Nebraska and DEA
license. Insure CHS is in compliance with DEA regulations and other
regulations applicable to the practice of veterinary medicine. Work
with a team of veterinary professionals in a positive manner
including licensed veterinary technicians, the Veterinary Support
Manager, other Veterinarians, and veterinary assistants.
Participate in special projects, as needed. Other duties, as
assigned.*REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS*Must be a licensed
veterinarian at the time of hire with the ability to obtain a
Nebraska license within three months of hire.Previous experience in
a non-profit and animal shelter setting is desirable.Ability to get
along well with people and animals.Must demonstrate ability to
communicate and work well with the public and co-workers.This
position requires the person to be computer literate. The ability
to use word processing software, spreadsheet software, and do data
entry is required. Accuracy in spelling and the ability to compose
documents and letters are essential.Must possess a valid Nebraska
drivers license and be insurable by the Capital Humane Societys
insurance carrier.*OTHER INFORMATION*Position is expected to work a
minimum of 40 hours per week and 8 hours per workday between the
hours of 7:30am-4:30pm. Regular schedule is Monday-Friday but does
require flexible working hours, at times, including a rotating
on-call schedule with other CHS Veterinarians.Position will be
expected to spend time at both CHS shelter facilities and the
Stransky Veterinary Center.This persons personal conduct needs to
be above average in all areas.Presence at the job site is an
essential element of this position.Job Type: Full-timePay:
