Speech-Language Pathologists: Identifies, diagnoses assesses, interprets, reports, and assists in planning for the needs of students identified with communicative disorders of fluency, voice, articulation, and/or language. Implements services to students with disabilities based upon the specific needs identified in the Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Plans and/or participates in conferences with parents. Assists in the development of individual intervention or therapy plans for students; implements these plans through the provision of direct or indirect service to students; evaluates students' progress in therapy; adjusts individual student programs when necessary. Designs management programs to maximize generalization to settings beyond therapy. Collects, records, and evaluates data pertinent to progress monitoring using authorized forms and procedures. Understands and follows building, district, state, and federal guidelines regarding students with speech-language impairments. Attends building staff meetings. Attends all speech/language staff meetings; participates in committee work and staff development activities. Participates in workshops, professional conferences, college courses, and/or district staff development activities. Plans, participate in, and evaluates staff development activities upon request of principals, staff, or supervisors. Uses various strategies (e.g., modeling, imitation, rehearsal, inquiry, prompting, cueing, feedback, discussion, lecture) for the provision of appropriate instruction for students. Uses continuous assessment to modify activities for meeting students' instructional needs. Arranges a physical environment to facilitate management. Establishes and maintains a structured environment conducive to student learning. Utilizes techniques to instruct students in curriculum-based instruction and social communication skills. Selects appropriate reinforcement systems for use in motivating students. In addition: Part of a great support network at the school building and throughout the district.
