Location:Nebraska State Penitentiary - 4201 S 14th St, Lincoln, NE Schedule: M-F 8:00 - 4:30 Examples of Work Transcribes medical dictation from medical staff to have a completed medical history and record for each patient. Types information onto medical forms to complete them. Interviews patients or patient's relatives to obtain medical information to complete forms for the patients' records. Codes medical diagnosis using nationally recognized coding systems to complete forms for reimbursement. Writes information onto index files to be used to prepare statistical reports. Reviews medical records to ensure completeness and all information required for accreditation. Extracts information from files to compile informational reports and to release to authorized individuals in compliance with confidentiality standards. Writes correspondence and completes forms to send to Mental Health Board or other facilities or agencies as required. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: High school graduation or equivalent. PREFERRED: At least one year of experience performing office/clerical/secretarial support functions. Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications. Correctional experience preferred. OTHER: Must submit to security background check. Applicant accepting a job offer must pass a pre-employment medical exam and a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Training Program. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: alphabetic and numeric filing systems; medical terminology; basic math; correct English grammar; medical records keeping practices. Ability to: type; take dictation; obtain medical information from ill patients, patients; relatives and medical staff; maintain files; operate a calculator, Dictaphone and switchboard.
