Description: The Nebraska Commission for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing is seeking a statewide Education, Youth & Family Liaison to
join their team! Do you have the passion to provide programs and
support for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing youth and their
families? Have the ability to facilitate and coordinate a robust
youth & family engagement strategy? Goal to work closely with
various local, regional, and state's programs and services to
assist in the overall coordination of services? Seek opportunities
to develop collaboration and partnership to ensure adherence to the
agency's mission and values for youths and their families? Assist
families as they navigate the systems, services, and decisions that
come with raising and educating a Deaf, DeafBlind or Hard of

statewide outreach to individuals who are Dea f , DeafBlind, and
Hard of Hearing, as well as families, schools , and service
providers. " Build and ma i ntain partnerships with educational
systems and community organizations . I n f ormation & R e ferral (
l &R) • Provide accurate , timely information on resources,
services, and communicat i on access. • Support individuals and fam
i lies in navigating education ancl community systems. Youth
Development & Family Support • P romo t e self-advocacy, i
ndependence. and life skill develop m ent among youth. • Support
families in understanding communication access, r ights , and
available services, Education System Collabora t ion • Collabora t
e with schools. I EP teams. and educational partners to support
equitable access. • P rovide guidance on communication
accommodations and De a f-centered best practices. T ra i n i ng &
P ublic Awareness • Deliver presentations and trainings to schools,
agencies, and community partners. • I ncrease awareness of Deaf cu
l tu re , communication access , and available technologies.
Program Development & Coordination • Assist in developing and
implement i ng statewide initiatives, events, and youth/family
programs . Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science or related field and one
year work experience in programs for Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of
Hearing persons OR five years’ or experience in a related field.
Proficiency in communicating using sign language. Any equivalent
combination of education and experience will be considered. Other:
:This position requires statewide travel , including occasional
overnight stays. The incumbent must maintain a valid driver ' s
license or have access to reliable independent transportation.

Knowledge of : state and federal laws that impact deaf , deafblind
, and hard of hearing persons; deaf community issues; the language
of the deaf community ; deaf education methods and issues; advocacy
issues and the role of an outreach liaison; hearing aids and other
devices available for deaf and hard of hearing persons. Skill in:
evaluating and determining the needs of deaf , deafblind , and hard
of hearing persons ; communicating with deaf, deafblind, and hard
of hearing persons using a variety of language levels; public
relations and presentation techniques; planning activities and
organizing volunteers. Ability to : understand and use the language
of the deaf community; plan and organize rehabilitative programs;
communicate with a variety of consumers using a variety of
communication modes ; effectively evaluate the progress of clients
in a rehabilitative setting; promote services provided by the
Nebraska Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission to the public; conduct
workshops and presentations; teach sign language classes. If you're
