Job Description:

Are you energized by a site leadership role that allows you to accelerate organizational improvements in a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment? If so, this Site EHS Lead role could be an ideal opportunity to explore. The Site EHS Lead will be responsible for directing and supporting EHS programs at the Lincoln facility to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and GSK Standards, and ensure that EHS-related risks and impacts are effectively managed. Act as a champion for EHS across the site and work with managers, supervisors and other staff to help them improve EHS management and performance in their areas of responsibility. The role includes strategic planning, tactical interventions and day-to-day support for operations. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Planning - Lead the development and implementation of site EHS strategy and associated annual plans. - Ensuring sustainable compliance with local and national EHS regulations. - Lead, manage and develop the site EHS Team creating a sustainable EHS organization capable of handling day-to-day EHS and risk operations as well as emerging issues - Establish and monitor EHS objectives, metrics and targets that reflect local needs and are aligned with GMS and legal expectations. Identify and support actions necessary to ensure these are achieved. - Advise management on EHS risks and impacts, and on compliance with GSK and legal requirements. Advise management on requirements for capital and operational expenditure to support EHS. - Ensure focus is maintained on EHS priorities through proactive communication and support. - Manage contracts with relevant suppliers of EHS services and manage and evaluate their performance. Risk Management - Coordinate EHS risk assessment, mitigation and escalation activities across all site operations and functions (including resident and project contractors). Advise management on the suitability and effectiveness of controls. - Ensure that significant EHS risks are included in the site risk register, discussed at site RMCB meetings and that appropriate mitigation plans are developed and implemented. - Identify and assess EHS risks associated with key suppliers and contract manufacturers managed by the site. - Coordinate and test local business continuity, emergency response, and crisis management plans. - Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability - Develop and co-ordinate site EHS programs based on a management-system approach with an emphasis on key EHS risks for the site, eg machinery, chemical agents, ergonomics, fire, occupational and environmental noise, workplace transport, waste and effluent management. - Lead implementation of the Consumer Healthcare Sustainability strategy at a local/site level. - Understand and interpret EHS legislation and GSK EHS Standards into local EHS procedures. - Maximize the success of capital investment projects and new product introductions by proactively integrating EHS issues during all stages of design, construction, commissioning and validation. - Develop, conduct and evaluate EHS training and - provide coaching on - EHS risks and programs. - Help management to monitor EHS standards across the site through regular informal walkthroughs. - Review and track investigations of injuries, illnesses, environmental releases, non-injury accidents and near-misses to ensure they identify and resolve root causes. Lead investigations into serious adverse events. - Co-ordinate Level 1 and 2 audit programs (combined with regular informal workplace inspections) to assess compliance with legal and GSK requirements and identify improvement opportunities. Analyze results and co-ordinate appropriate corrective actions. - Identify and champion adoption of relevant EHS industry good practice. - Champion a strong safety culture in which site personnel integrate EHS considerations into everything they do. Help site personnel to understand and apply safe behaviors. - Provide EHS technical advice to enable effective engineering and administrative control measures to be implemented, including input to work instructions and safe systems of work. - Champion environmental efficiency and the effective minimization and management of site wastes (eg solid waste, process effluent) to minimize environmental impacts and reduce costs. - Work with the Site Energy Manager to champion and facilitate programs and projects to reduce energy usage and the sites carbon footprint. - Work with the site Human Resources Manager to ensure the provision of high quality employee health services, eg in relation to health surveillance, health capability, health promotion, sickness absence, resilience. Accountability: - Serve as primary contact for above site and external groups (eg regulators, local emergency services.) Support local community relations by serving as initial point of contact for neighbors and city officials. - Support sites license-to-operate by ensuring compliance with EHS legislation, amending and renegotiating permits as required. - Ensure key EHS risks are effectively managed and, where appropriate, escalated to senior management. Achieve site EHS improvement targets and objectives in line with GMS and GSK expectations. Serve as a member of the site Risk Register Team. - Resolve regulatory and other EHS issues to enable capital projects and new product introductions to be implemented on time and on budget. - Serious EHS issues can arise at any time, requiring the role holder to make important decisions and agree solutions at a moments notice. Solutions need to be right first time to avoid serious adverse consequences. - The role has a high level of autonomy in relation to day-to-day operation and decision making. Why you? Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: - Minimum B.S. Degree in an EHS discipline, Science, or Engineering with a minimum of 5 years experience in EHS program development and implementation, preferably in the pharmaceutical or consumer healthcare industry - Professional certification (e.g., CHMM, CIH, CSP). - Current member of relevant professional EHS institution (eg American Society of Safety Engineers, American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists). - Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Technician (HAZWOPER) certificate. - EHS fundamentals (eg management systems, risk assessment and various hierarchies of control) plus requirements of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. - A successful record of risk reduction projects, preferably in manufacturing environment. - Proficiency in the requirements and practical implementation of federal, state and local EHS legislation, including OSHA, HAZMAT, DOT, IATA, CWA, RCRA, EPA, SARA,. - Detailed knowledge of EHS issues ie machinery, chemical agents, fire, ergonomics, occupational and environmental noise, workplace transport, environmental emissions, waste, and effluent management. - Collection, analysis, and interpretation of EHS data for professional and lay audiences. Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: - GSKs EHS Standards, supporting documentation, processes and tools, including EHS Central - Qualified first-aid provider and incident commander. - ISO Lead Auditor qualification - Consumer/toothpaste manufacturing, to include processes, equipment, EHS issues and good practices. - Application of Lean Sigma tools and techniques to EHS issues (eg through Green Belt certification). - GSK and local business processes, including the Quality Management System and Leadership Edge principles.
